Hi not to butt in on the Medusa post because it’s lovely and a lot of your point stands well but Athena didn’t give Medusa her stone gaze as a gift. Athena was mad only at Medusa, rather than Poseidon, and victim blamed to the extreme.

I just want to say you’re kind of horribly mistaken about Medusa? I mean. She was a victim, but Athena wasn’t her goddess, and the stone thing was a curse and not a gift. Basically she was a bitch, Poseidon was a rapist, and Athena was a jealous bitch that turned Medusa into a monster bitch. Nobody is a good person in this story

im too tired to answer this question once again. look at the notes, i gave a nuanced, detailed answer. this post wasnt meant to be that successful tbh it was just an angry post while i was researching the subject. i didnt MEAN to make it look nuanced and academic-like. basically: myths we know are the written ones. written ones: by men with political agendas in a rape culture. athena: a major goddess men needed on their side. snakes: ambivalent symbol of medecine. weird metamorphose that doesnt happen anywhere else, actually powerful bc it subverts the process of dehumanization and reification that leads to rape/explain it = probably why medusa is such a vibrant relatable figure still nowadays. read the notes. ķ
