I’ve read the story of Clotilde Superba and we’ve got a new role model from the VI th century guys :
– daughter of a king
– forced to live a cloistered life in Poitiers
– refused the authority of her new abbess
– fled the monastery with 40 nuns, led them through the merovingian territory
– wanted to meet the kings/queen in order to make them punish the abbess
– said fuck off to Gregory of Tours (yes, the soon to be saint)
– Sent numerous letters to her cousins/aunt so they had to notice her
– said fuck off to the church
– was excommunicated and said fuck off again
– seriously she was ok with that, the only way for her to apologize was to punish the abbess but everybody refused
– scared the hell out of Venantius Fortunatus (yes, another soon to be saint)
– came back to Poitiers, allied with bandits and some guys from the city
– tried to take over the monastery several times
– said fuck off to death
– no joke she just held the relic of the true cross that belonged to the monastery and said to the men who came to stop her “ you can’t kill me, I’m a princess” and it scared them so they did nothing
– In court, she refused to apologize because the abbess was not declared guilty and became the head of the monastery again
– She sent letters to her aunt, queen Brunhilda, in which she gossiped so much about the abbess and her possible lovers that Brunhilda had to juge them all (they were innocents and it was proved)
– said fuck off again and refused to apologize and to go back to the monastery
– Brunhilda, after countless sighs, granted her a villa in the countryside were Clotilde lived a happy and lavish life
do you think ants get confused when they accidentally get on buses and end up really far away
Fun fact: if ants enter the territory of another colony, the other colony will smell that they’re different and rip them to pieces.
unless that colony happens to belong to the vast, interconnected megacolony of argentine ants that extends across the americas, europe, and japan; the members of which will interact with and accept ants from the other branches far more readily than ants from other supercolonies (unless unless they’re from one of the smaller subunits of the megacolony, in which case they might react aggressively which is super interesting)
Anyways the “choke me daddy 😘😘😍😜💦💦” shit is creepy af to begin with, and it’s even worse that it’s now widely viewed as normal and something that a girl should be into during sex if she wants to show that she’s a Cool Girl™
Ok but no joke there’s an increasing number of guys nowadays who just ASSUME that all women are into being choked/slapped/spit on/called vile names and other degrading shit (as long as it’s in a sexual context, which makes it magically ok I guess!), like they won’t even ask if it’s ok for them to do it before they just go for it because they’re surrounded by a culture that reinforces this as standard behavior. It’s pretty screwed up how this has become what many young adults consider the new normal for human sexuality. The way some people react to women who insist that they have no desire to be treated like subhumans during sexual encounters would make you think that “””vanilla””” sex is the most scandalous thing in the world.
one thing I don’t think people realize is that in arguments about human rights, it’s not about trying to persuade the other party. it’s not about them at all. they’ve already made up their mind.
it’s about persuading the audience.
if I call out my teacher on being homophobic I’m not trying to change his opinion. I’m trying to convince any closeted kids in the room that they’re not the monsters he’s made them out to be.
if I argue with my aunt about how racist she’s being it’s not because I expect to change her mind. it’s because I’m hoping to god my cousin’s kids hear and learn that maybe skin color doesn’t mean what she says it means.
people will try to hush you and say “they’re not going to change their minds, don’t bother” but it’s not about them. it was never about them.
someone in your class mentions communism. they speak about it at length. you are in biology class.
you text your mother. she does not respond for 3 days. you text her again and then realize that it has only been 2 hours since your first text.
freshmen travel in packs. what are they afraid of.
your class is in room 153. the numbers start at 201. you cannot find the first floor.
someone is talking about communism. it is not the same person as last time. this is an english class.
your transcript says you have an A in philosophy 3310. you do not remember taking this class. what did you learn? what did you do?
you meet your elevator buddy. you do not speak. you never do. you ride in silence. one day, they are not there. you miss them.
your advisor refers you to the registrar. the registrar refers you to admissions. admissions refers you to both the registrar and your advisor. you have spoken to two people who do not exist and one who has been dead for ten years.
the boy who sits next to you wears the same clothes everyday. you think this is strange but when you mention it, he tells you that this is the first time he has worn this outfit. you realize that you have lived this day before.
you pass someone sleeping in the quad. he has always been there. stop looking at him.
someone answers, “communism.” it is not someone who has been previously mentioned. the question was, “what is an example of the art of ancient greece?”
you have a doppelganger on campus. you have never met them. they know all of your friends.
the seniors speak only to professors. their eyes are dead. they have given up the safety of the pack long ago.
the professor is talking about STD’s. your math class is very strange.
the powerpoint is in comic sans. you suspect that your economics professor is an extraterrestrial being after all.
“communism,” the man serving you lunch insists. wearily you nod. that’s what everyone says.
