Help a student out !

I’m currently reading my “History of French” lessons. 

Y’know, the usual latin word order was “Subject – Object – Verb” but in romance languages it became “Subject – Verb – Object”.

Apparently, we do not know why this change occurred… And my question is : is there any hypothesis to explain it? I’m really curious…
