Why are we so quick to forget lesbian experiences of dysphoria? Sometimes people talk abt butchness, particularly stone butchness, as a response to dysphoria but it’s so much larger than that. Lesbians have always had a problematic relationship to bodies, expressing sexuality, womanhood…I feel like butch/femme expressions as a whole have always been abt managing dysphoria and gender roles in a way that is reparative and healing and woman-centered. And that’s just the tip of thee iceberg ! *writes a paper abt it* 📝
yeah, i feel like some sort of gender dysphoria is pretty inherent in the alienation of being defined as a woman and especially as a lesbian, which is an important site for solidarity with other lesbians for me personally as a trans woman. i hate the way that identity politics tend to separate “cis” (especially butch) lesbians and “trans” lesbians so far apart because it seems like at the end of the day we’re all kinda just…figuring out how to heal from the fucked up ways gender affects us bodily/socially and that’s a thing we can do together.
