reminder of the day: achilles’ name literally means pain
I’m here for the etymology so,
Ἀχιλλεύς > Achilles
The name came from the ancient Greek word achos (ἄχος) which means pain/sadness/stress/anxiety
The literal meaning of the name is “the one who has the urge for achos”(«αυτός που έχει τάση για ἄχος»)
Achos > achilos > Achilles (ἄχος > ἀχίλος > Ἀχιλλεύς)
Previously, there was a tendency to associate the name with the Acheloos (Αχελώος) and Acheron (Αχέρων) rivers, where the root Ach- would be associated with the concept of “water” and perhaps have also cherished connotations.
Also I really didn’t need that reminder I’m going to cry in my corner
I literally just updated the post with more definitions!
Great minds think alike!! Thanks for that
So what you’re saying is
Achilles literally is “the angsty one” or “the man without chill”
