Rape survivers aren’t more likely to end up homeless, like vets. Rape survivers might be able to find counseling or medical help, unlike vets who might still have paper only records as the VA hasn’t nationally digitized everything
And what the fuck about rape survivers who also had to kill kids in the middle East? Fuck their trauma? I hate the bloated and top brass centric funding for the military, but our vets come home to NOTHING but empty platitudes and trauma.

The military is not always something people go into willingly. I know plenty of people for whom the military was the only option to get the training, benefits, consistent, paycheck, and consistent food and housing, as well as citizenship that the military offers. I know plenty of people who are in for those reasons and who hate their lives. I know plenty of people who are in for those reasons and are thriving.
Not everyone joins the military to kill and very few people join the military with the intention to destroy lives or kill children.
The military is trained to follow orders and act within their best judgement at the time. People on deployment live in constant fear or constant apathy of whether or not they’re going to die at any moment from an IED, incoming mortar, enemy fire, or some idiot who didn’t learn proper muzzle awareness. When out in town the judgement is kill or be killed, take action or your team dies. Everything they learn is about ensuring that the person on your left and right comes home alive.
Our country is insane and toxic. Our foreign policy is incredibly problematic. Our economy is shot. The likelihood of affording a degree without severe debt unless you are fantastically wealthy or get a lot of scholarships is very low. Housing prices, cost of living, even being able to afford food and clothes, are all expensive. For many the military is one of the only places they can go.
And yes, with women in the military and being allowed on deployment, and with men in the military and the shit that can happen to them as well there are people who have been assaulted and had to kill. There are people who are survivors of more than one thing.
Rape is no joke. Murder and the mistakes that are made at a high level are no joke. But the kids and young adults who are fresh out of high school and looking to make a better future for themselves and serve their country also don’t deserve the bullshit hate that the military gets. Hate your country, hate your leadership’s policies, hate the way the entire world is falling apart, and hate capitalism, but leave the people who go to defend their country and end up worse off alone.
Literally who the hell cares about any of that? Do you think the thousands of people in the Middle East and elsewhere killed in bogus wars care about that? Do you think their families care? Are brown nonwesterners supposed to lay down their lives so your high school graduates or w/e can ‘serve their country’ and have a marginally better existence? Stop trying to come up with excuses and justifications bc there are none.
