White people really try to reduce their role in a genocide of over 100 million people by claiming they died mostly of disease like that wasn’t a convenience for them and would have killed them anyway. There’s nothing to compare how utterly irresponsible and complicit they are in everything they actively kill and destroy for however many centuries.
White people think they can pat themselves on the back for being “woke” enough to recognize that Columbus was a piece of shit and slavery existed while continuing to harp at minorities for defending themselves and demanding greater respect and reparations from the troubles they caused. They read and write the textbooks and pass on their white ignorance, white burden, and white saviour nonsense to as many people as they can, including the very same people they oppress. Few minorities or even white people for that matter would be praising this country if the atrocities they did were recorded properly in the public education system that’s a whole damn mess on its own.
White people literally used their disease with their unhygienic bodies to enact biological warfare on Native people via smallpox infested blankets, but please tell me how it’s not really genocide because people died of sickness before they could (conveniently) even see them. It wouldn’t make a difference, disease or no disease. It’s genocide. At least if there wasn’t a smallpox or whatever else they were carrying, more settlers would die and maybe the Natives would have actually won. The latter is unlikely, but both are very much welcome.
Not just blankets, like there’s recorded accounts of how the Odawa asked the government for help and they were sent a box, inside was a smaller box, and inside that yet another, and Russian nesting doll style all the way down to a very small box in which was a tiny scrap of mouldy fabric. Shortly thereafter smallpox spread like wildfire, killing a good chunk of us, including our medicine people. That can’t be written off as some accident of ignorance like how they try to do with the infected blankets thing. That was very deliberate.
