when you instill in society the capitalist belief that “if you work hard you will make it”, then no empathy goes to the poor because of the delusional ideology that they “choose” to remain poor. no critical thought goes into the disadvantages experienced by individuals, and many middle/upper class people brain washed by capitalism even believe shelter, water and food shouldn’t be accessible and free. they’re so defensive of capitalism that they refuse to consider how it causes things that keep the poor poor, like drug addiction. the poor have to exist for the rich to exist under capitalism. remember that.
