imagine hating brown people so much that you think your poverty justifies the killing of people (who are probably poorer than you!! Lol!!) overseas??

I’m poor so it’s justified I join what I *know* to be an imperialist force that is destabilizing foreign nations?? For the sake of my own upward mobility I must enable foreign invasion??

would love to see Americans/Canadians/Brits stand up for this logic if it was poor Iraqis or Syrians coming HERE to bomb the shit out of their hometown. ‘It sucks they killed my family but !! They needed college tuition so I totally get it’

i love how this post blames poor people for being poor and making sure to put all of the blame on the people who want to be able to eat everyday, and not, you know, America’s fault for systematically forcing lower class people to join the military if they want food, and education, health insurance, and proper housing.

lol “blaming poor people for being poor”

like who do you think is making/reblogging these posts? ‘cause it’s not rich people. and it never will be because rich people directly benefit from sustaining the military. anti-military sentiments are always (always always always) pioneered by the same poor, systemically disadvantaged people who themselves suffer from the same lack of opportunities and are themselves victims of military propaganda…but just because you are oppressed at home doesn’t mean you can oppress people abroad with no reprimand. you have to own your involvement as many repentant former soldiers do. this post is very obviously directed at the people who know why it’s wrong, but try to justify it anyway.

“it’s America’s fault for systematically forcing lower class people to join the military”

poverty in america is not what is keeping the american army alive. this is a huge and really important myth.

maybe your “blaming poor people for being poor” bullshit would have a leg if it was the targeted recruitment of poor people that sustained the american army–but it’s not.

in 2018 there is no draft, no mandatory army service, and the military is comprised of primarily white, upperclass and historically wealthy enlistees. the army fails to make people rich or give them the escape* from poverty that people so often use as a justification for their enlistment

to treat poverty as the root cause of reluctant, misguided support for american imperialism is totally without basis. the people who most often join the military are rich, already educated, and would be wealthy even if they didn’t join the military.

everyone has the right to a safe, healthy and happy life – but to think this supersedes the rights of poor, brown people abroad?? to think that is a sufficient justification for enlistment?? that is the biggest fucking insult to the same poor people you claim to care so much about
